And by the way, my S600 basically totaled itself.

I juat talked to my dad: the shop got into the car today, they pulled the undertray and it was covered in hydraulic fluid.

The whole system grenaded. The pump is leaking. Two lines for sure are totally bad, but another pair may also be bad but they won’t know till they get it apart. But the current estimate is $4,900. And still climbing. So...yeah...I can’t afford that. So we’re gonna have to fix it and then I’m probably gonna have to sell it to cover the repairs. So somebody is gonna get a really safe buy.

If you’re just gonna sell, why fix then sell? Why take the risk that you can’t get the repair value back out of it?

Suspension? Do they make a bolt in coil over conversion?

So if this car gets these repairs, is that sufficient to make it a reliable DD? Maybe keep it?

Yup. By the looks of it, he’d likely have to get a regular (non ABC) power steering pump or replace the ABC pump and cap off lines.

Non-ABC pump for a V12? Good luck.

I thought you meant this S600, but I then realized I had read your post from earlier this week. Sorry to hear.

Would probably be cheaper, more reliable and make the car more desirable then.

Go for a LS next... I’m fixing 294k miles worth of crap right now and diagnosing running problems, tune ups, timing belt, random parts here and there,, and a ton of other things and the parts are less then a grand. I’m fixing a lot compared to just the suspension.

Nobody makes aftermarket equivalents for the suspension pump. And the greater crime would be to do a coil-over conversion. Yea, it would still be an S-Class and it would still have a V12, but the hydraulic suspension is a pretty big selling point...

Especially since I’m effectively fixing it for the next owner...

Well, do what you must :(. Any ideas for a replacement? Another S class maybe ?

As weird as it sounds, ABC helps in a big way to make the car what it is. Yeah without ABC it would still be a V12 S class, but it doesn’t have the same combo of magic carpet ride and near absence of body roll at any speed.

I’ve been told by the powers who supplement my finances that I have to pick something more conventional, so I’ll probably have to fall back on some unrefined piece of american pig-iron. A last year Cadillac DeVille or a first-gen Escalade ESV platinum if I can find one with high enough mileage.

That’s too bad. You could try looking for a STS with the northstar, maybe even a V. Could you see yourself having another S600 later in life ?
